Tonight, Brenau Women’s College hold her graduation services.
My little baby girls are grown up women now.
And represented as squirrels on the house banner. It’s the perfect send off.
I’ll miss you, sisters dear. Remember to come back often!
Posted by Anna-Elizabeth | 0 commentsMay Day, Brenau’s version of Homecoming as we do not have football. Think garden party with May Court (which is of course, like homecoming court). It used to be held on actual May Day and the Court was like a pageant marriage between the May Queen and May Prince. Or was it between the May Prince and Princess with the May Queen presiding? …. I need to chat up Debbie and the archives about that one.
Anyway, this May Day started with an Alpha Gam Initiation. Where I saw this really cool version of the College Ring! It’s the top of the ring with the Women’s College Seal on a necklace! WANT.
And guess who got Initiated? My own sweet Camera Twin and Photography Partner, Anna! And guess what!? She picked my sister-granddaughter Cher to be her sister-mother which makes her MY sister-great granddaughter! Rejoice and ice cream for everyone!
Now, what’s really cool about Anna being Initiated is this:
All Alpha Gams and they were all on the same hall as Freshman. They remained friends through college and after graduation and now they are sisters.
We walked up to Two Dog for Anna’s Feast of Roses celebration.
And then walked back to May Day only to find the fountain full of ferns and not water. Sigh.
We took the traditional pictures. One of Anna taking a picture of me while I was taking a picture of her.
And then out crew with Harriet. Our crew minus Mer, who couldn’t make it.
And then one of the best looking girls at May Day.
May Day seemed to come and go with a quickness. I suppose it was the Initiation in the morning. That and no Junior Class Skit AGAIN this year. Which makes me so sad. Tradition is so important to our College and her unique charms and personality. I can only hope that it’s a passing phase of lazy in this generation and we all come back to what’s right very soon. At least I can always rest on the shoulders of my sisters to maintain the greatness of history and perpetuate hope and tradition through their actions in word and deed.
And look fabulous while they are at it.

1) Debbie is All Thing Brenau Women’s College. There is not a Brenau Girl out there who doesn’t LOVE Debbie.
2) Mu Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta is currently preparing for her Centennial Celebration in May 2014.
3) I’m on the History Committee of the Centennial Planning Team.
The History Committee had an archive dig planned for a Saturday afternoon when we wee all off work. That means that Debbie, Keeper of the Archives was off work too. But because Debbie is amazing, she met us on campus to let us in the room and show us around.
Because the History Committee was so grateful to Debbie for coming into work on a Saturday just to accommodate us, we thought it would be nice to give her a little something by way of thanks.
Interestingly, the Alumni (alumni because they also serve the Evening and Weekend college which is co-ed) House had just purchased a print from me to hang in their offices. So I ordered an extra for Debbie.
Then picked up a frame and backing. Because you can’t give Debbie a print without a frame. That’s just silly.

Melanie is holding the official Alpha Gamma Delta Box.
Because Brenau spans for 134 years, they have the boxes sorted by subject instead of year. It makes it easier for people who are digging on a subject, which is far more likely than a dig by the year.

It took us a while to ooo and aaahh over the bulletins and catalogs.
When I become rich and famous, I’m restoring Pearce and Yonah to their former glory. And all the sorority houses too.

There were a zillion secret societies on campus back in the day. Some of them were just so strange. It’s a shame we have lost their meaning and purpose now. It would have been something else to see what they were really up to. Especially the group with the hair standing straight up, held by fishing line. Just wild.
