The Night I Became an Escape Route

Loki stays on top of the sideboard. That’s just where she lives. Her food, water, bed, starching post and treats are up there. And, much like a sloth or other tree dwelling manuals, she only comes down to use the facilities.

Remus likes to play sheep dog to keep her up there. Loki is a chicken and won’t stand up against the boys who like to bat and paw her. They aren’t being malicious, mind. They are just being little boys with frogs in their pockets. And Loki is the little girl who picks up her skirt and runs when anyone makes a face at her.

Now. Remus and I were snuggling in bed when we heard some rustling in my office across the hall. Remus immediately went into fighting stance, ears back, crouched and clearly scared to death. I got up and went to see if something had gotten into the attic and down through the vents. That’s my first thought based on Remus’ elevated concern. Once I flip the light on in my office, I see Loki. I lean down to pick her up, she’s clearly startled, wondering how she got that far away from her sideboard.

Remus doesn’t realize it’s her and let’s out a terrible war cry and attacks in the hopes of protecting me. Loki is (naturally) spooked and bolts for the hall.

I’m holding her at the time her flight instinct kicks in remember.

Loki has some serious claws. After all, she does nothing but sleep, eat and sharpen her weapons.

I’m completely shredded.

Below is a perfect imprint of her back foot. It later bruised up something fierce.

Now. I’m about to show you something not many people have seen. It’s my bare back. If you are easily offended by the sight of bare skin or upper harnessing apparatus straps, you can just stop reading now. It’s nothing you wouldn’t see on the beach you know, but still. I feel it’s important to warn my mother. It’s important to the story for you all to see what’s become of me, but not to surprise anyone with something not normally seen on this blog.

Also, my back is usually smooth with freckles. Every little bump and red spot is a puncture wound from Loki.

You can see how she went through my arms and up and over my back during her escape.

Now, quick! Look at Romulus and forget that you ever saw my bare back!

So purdy.

The tshirt I was wearing at the time is now blood stained and holey. Just like me.

Less than 5 minutes after all this happened, both Loki and Remus were lounging in their usual spots as if nothing had happened.

I’m still scared and bruised from the night’s events.
